Fashion Desk: Cannes Film Festival 2013
She Said:
I love the Cannes Film Festival! You get to hear all about new movies, see beautiful images of France and see all your favorite stars. Cannes is also really fun from a fashion perspective because of the fact that events occur throughout the day. You get to see beautiful gowns and fabulous summer clothes for daywear just in time to make your summer shopping list. I could talk about dresses and shoes from Cannes for a long time. But, this time I’ll limit my thoughts to just my top ten!
1. 1. Isla Fisher in Dolce & Gabanna
I love this dress because it’s so sweet and ladylike. The cutout floral detail is so beautiful. I would love to own this dress! And I think it’s so chicly styled with the black shoes and classic red lipstick.
2. 2. Carey Mulligan in Calvin Klein
I love Calvin Klein! He is a master of structure and simple lines. Even the peplum on this dress is perfectly shaped! I would like this dress, too!
3. 3. Berenice Bejo in Louis Vuitton
This outfit is so French! I love the clean lines, the beautiful blue color and the feminine details on the top.
4. 4. Nicole Kidman in Christian Dior
This floral fabric is so gorgeous! Yes, this gown is wonderfully structured, but look at that gorgeous fabric! I love her beautiful coral shoes, too.
5. 5. Jessica Biel in Marchesa
The color and lace of this dress are so beautiful, but I also love the feather detail. This gown reminds me of being a swan, in a good way- like a ballerina not like Bjork’s famous and silly Oscar dress.
6. 6. Naomi watts in Dolce & Gabanna
This dress has such a classic and beautiful shape. The floral print is also lovely and well accented by the black background. I love Naomi’s style!
7. 7. Ahna O’Reilly in Monique Lhullier
The burgundy lace of this outfit is graceful and feminine. The dresses multilayered hem really work with the chic pants. It reminds me of one Lucile Ball’s beautiful lounging outfits from I Love Lucy.
8. 8. Isla Fisher in Dolce & Gabanna
This dress is amazing. The beautiful ruffles in a perfectly brilliant shade of red are so stunning.
9. 9. Marion Cottillard in Dior
This was my favorite gown from all of Cannes. I love the beautiful lines, high low hem and the absolutely, perfectly placed color blocking. Her whole look is perfection from hair and makeup to jewels and shoes. I would love to own this look.
10 10. Nicole Kidman in Christian Dior
Since Nicole Kidman was a jury member for this year’s Cannes Film Festival (how fun) it’s only appropriate that she wore a stunning wardrobe of dresses this week. But, I really loved this simple black sequin dress. It’s something that any woman could really use because it’s not too formal, but it would be perfect for many dressy occasions.
He Said:
Cannes is such a beautiful place in France. Every year when it hosts its film festival, it turns into a great place for seeing what real men can wear. This year there was a lot of evidence to show that casual menswear can still be fabulous. Here’s some of the best.
Michael B. Jordan- I love a good vest, and Michael pairs it here with a really snazzy white tie.
Sam Clafin- I don’t see leather jackets much anymore, but I love them. Clafin’s shirt helps dress down the outfit a little, and it works really well.
Damian Lewis- This jacket is so nautical and whimsical, that I would love to have one!
Christoph Waltz- Waltz did a great job pairing his colors into a look that I would love own.
James Franco- I like how the different texture of the suit and the tie work well together.
Steven Spielberg- Here’s a neat use of a sweater vest that I really love.
Leonardo DiCaprio and Baz Luhrman- Leo does a create job with class here, keeping it simple, but sharp. Baz Luhrman uses a cardigan to offset the crazy different colors of his suit.
