Fashion Desk: Northern Virginia Magazine’s Fashion NoVA Fashion Show #2- Trendy
Recently, RJ and I (Kari) were privileged to attend Northern Virginia Magazine’s Fashion NoVA event. We attended part 2 of a four-part fashion show series, which featured Trendy fashion and took place at The Fashion Centre at Pentagon City. While we saw a lot of awesome clothing and accessories, for me, fall fashion was all about 4 key trends.
This black and cream jacket from The Limited is fabulous! I love the mix of tough elements like leather, with softer fabric elements like the cream fabric. The seaming detail is lovely. You could wear a jacket like this with so many different things- dresses, t-shirts. It really could be a new twist on” the jacket”, usually a jean jacket or hoodie, and update so many outfits for fall.
Tweed is always fun and functional for fall. This jacket from White House Black Market exhibits that classic black and white palette. But, it’s also a fun and modern due to the fit, as well as the seaming and zipper detail.
I love black and white. I also LOVE stripes. I was so excited to see so many different ways to wear stripes for fall. This dress, from Express, is fun for fall, especially when paired with a soft leather jacket. This outfit looks like a great bridge outfit, something that you can wear and enjoy now. Plus, stripes are such classic print, if you switch up how you style the outfit for spring; it would look seasonally appropriate then, too.
I love mixing patterns and colors and this outfit, from White House Black Market, shows a perfect and fun blending of both. This outfit is so sharp! I love it! All these pieces look great together and would work well with other pieces that you own. The fuchsia jacket and the simple striped skirt would work with many other outfits, both individually and together.
The New Wrap Dress
I’ve always wanted to wear a wrap dress. But, I have a hard time achieving a good fit (#curvygirlproblems), so even though I love wrap dresses, I don’t wear them. What I love about this dress from Cache is that it looks like a wrap dress, but it’s a faux wrap. I also love that the neckline is a higher to help avoid spilling out. The ruching detail all over the dress is also very flattering.
I always joke that I never met a peplum that I didn’t like. I am so glad that the peplum has been back for a few seasons and I’m glad it’s still here. This Ann Taylor dress is a beautiful color and the peplum really gives this classically shaped dress some extra punch. Peplums are also very flattering (#curvygirlwin) and I look forward to rocking one this fall.
In addition to the fabulous fashion show, we also were treated to a makeup demo from Lindsey Clark of Lindsey Clark Makeup Artistry. She gave some great tips about minimizing the appearance of dark circles. I definitely learned some new tricks.
We were also able to meet the emcee, Ms. DC, Erika Thomas! I think I may have almost shrieked with happiness when we took this picture!
Thanks, Northern Virginia Magazine for a fun afternoon of fashion! Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go dream of all these beautiful fall clothes.
Thank you so much to Northern Virginia Magazine for inviting us to this great event. Since there was no menswear, I’m going to talk about a few specific things that I thought were neat looks that appeal to me.
For starters I’ll talk about this outfit from White House Black Market. It was neat to hear how White House Black Market started out in the area and has grown into such a big company. I never knew that they only used black, white, and two accent colors. The two accent colors used in this show were fuschia and turquoise, which are both favorites for Kari! I really liked this turquoise pant with the black and white design top. It was a great pop of color that keeps things from being too busy.
Cache presented a really cool take on the little black dress. The gold detail all the way down the arms gives this something a little more interesting than the standard all black fare.
Cache also showed this awesome blue dress. If it seems too simple at first glance, then just notice the seams jutting down from the hips, and the exposed zipper in the back. Both details give the dress a modern, yet not too flashy look.
Finally, Macy’s brought this great jacket. The cut is fashion forward, and the mix of the floral print and leather as accents is really a nice aesthetic.
We really had a great time at this fashion show and can’t wait to go to our next one! We’ll be covering the fourth installment as well, so stay tuned!
